Can I G et a Wi tness? tells the stor y of a mothe r and daughter in a near -future world where hug e sacrifices a re made to m aintain life on Earth. With i ts reso urces swallowed by e-waste a nd overpopula tion, the world is expe riencin g an anthro pogenic colla pse. To manage , techno logical advanc es are shunned. Nobody h as electric ity and onl y people wi th except ions are perm itted car s. Most importantly, there is also a collect ive agreem ent that nobo dy is allow ed to live beyo nd the age of 50. Oh’s Elli e lives with her te enage da ughter Kia h (Keira Jang), who is starting h er first day as a Do cumenter, an importan t role in this new world o rder. She uses her artistic gifts — bea utifully c onjured in anim ations — to draw t he dying ceremonie s, since printing an d photography have been ban ned. Kiah is paired with Da niel (Joel Oul ette), the young man who per forms the co ntractual elemen ts of each per son’s end -of-life cer emony. He matter- of-factly pro vides th e packages a person can choose, sets them u p when the ti me come s, and pe rforms the burial s.
