The sho w follo ws the i nvestigations o f a team o f NYPD foren sic scientists and poli ce offic ers identified as " Crime Scene I nvestiga tors" (instead of th e actual title of & quot;Crime Sc ene Unit Foren sic Technici ans" (CSU)) as they u nveil th e circums tances behind mysteri ous and unusu al deaths, as well as other c rimes. The series is an indi rect spin- off from the veteran series CSI: Crime Sc ene Investi gation and a direct spin-off from C SI: Miami , durin g an episod e in which seve ral of the CSI: NY charac ters made t heir fi rst appearanc es.
