When the whole family b unch, ba sically all bastard s, criminals and sluts must be rel ocated from their City slum becaus e of to xic waste under their hou se, the city council house no choic e. The only availa ble space is in the &a mp;quot;Zo endal&quot ; - the & quot;Sun Valley&quo t; the bes t area in Amsterdam where all doct ors, snob s and busines smen can afford to live their liv es. And where the cen tral point of interest and politics is the tennis club of the communit y. The Flo dder family br ings dev astation to t he tranquil world t hat ruled be fore. They are simply un believable. Th e characte risation is i ncredibly fu nny, begi nning wi th Ma F lodder who s earches o ther peopl e&#39 ;s trash cans for food or making ille gal liquor in her cel lar and ending with the eldest d aughter who is the biggest slut o n earth. T ogether they m ake the most horrible f amily imagina ble, a sor t of im moral mi rror image t o the Brady Bunch or the Waltons. When the City coun sel of Am sterdam hop ed that the F lodders would show their g ood wil l to be more ci vilised in t heir new area, it turns ou t that Holland 's mo st famous fam ily would ra ther br ing out the worst in the ri ch people of "Sun V alley&am p;quot;-wonder land. The re st is a hi larious, bri lliant and well made socia l satire th at can be wa tched as a p rovocativ e movie as well as a st raightf orward com edy. Dick Maa s at his be st. I salu te him! Fl ooder w as the Du tch smash hit in 1986 and brought two seq uels and a tv series. Al l of the se quels were nic e but not as great as th e origin al. Flo dders (1986) is availabl e on DVD in Germany in a dubb ed German vers ion in D olby Dig ital 5.1. under the name: &am p;quot;Flodd ers -Eine Fa milie zum knutsch en&qu ot; Why is First Floor Fea tures, t he producer of the movie not br inging the Dick Maa s blockbust ers out on DVD in the Ne therlands, I wonder.
