Former polic e detective Adrian Monk (T ony Shalhoub), whose pho tographic m emory and a mazing abili ty to piec e together tiny cl ues made him a local l egend, has suffered from intensifi ed obsessive -compulsive disorder and a varie ty of phobias since the unso lved murder o f his wi fe, Trudy, in 1997. No w on ps ychiatric le ave from the San Franc isco Po lice Departm ent and working as a f reelance dete ctive/ co nsultant on difficult cases, Monk hopes to convince his former boss, Capta in Leland S tottlemeyer (T ed Levine), to all ow him to retu rn to the for ce. Stottlem eyer, who wav ered between admiration f or Monk an d annoyan ce at his eccentriciti es during the f irst se ason, is becoming more of a friend to Monk as the s eries d evelops, frequent ly calling him in to help, as much for Mo nk's b enefit as fo r his ow n. Howev er, he kno ws Monk&a mp;#39;s limitations as well as hi s strengths and may stil l harbor doubts ab out the w isdom of allo wing Monk to carry a gun or subdue a pe rpetrato r. Stottleme yer's s econd-in-co mmand, Lieut enant Ran dall Disher (J ason Gray-St anford), also seems to be develo ping both admi ration and compassion f or the man he once labe led &am p;quot;the de fective detect ive.&quo t; Despite f laws an d inadequ acies a ll around, the thr ee are beco ming an increa singly effect ive team, wit h additi onal help from Monk' s personal as sistant. Fr om the dou ble-episod e pilot t hrough the fi rst half o f season thre e, Monk was aided by his nurse, Sharo na Flemi ng (Bitty Sc hram). But in the tenth ep isode of the third season, Sharo na was rep laced by a n ew assist ant, Nat alie Teeger (Traylor Ho ward). Like Sha rona, a divorce e with a son na med Benjy, Nat alie is a single paren t, a widow wit h a daug hter named Ju lie (Emmy Clar ke). Unlike Sh arona, Natali e is not a nurse b ut a former ba rtender with a fresh per spective on &quot ;Mr. Monk, & ;quot; as she s till addresses her new b oss.詳情
